Experience
Mr. Colwill’s career spans more than 40 years, with experience that is truly unique in the construction industry. From the outset, his career has focused on design build projects as a Project Manager and Engineer for one of the nation’s largest electrical contractors responsible for two of the more significant projects on Baltimore’s Inner Harbor.
A promotion to Chief Engineer and transfer to Florida offered the ability to manage all engineering, estimating, and project management for a regional office. Ultimately this led to a position of Division President with total responsibility for a regional office.
In 1989, after becoming concerned with stability of the national organization, Mr. Colwill set out to start an engineering firm. Over time, the firm has continued to add additional capabilities. The first expansion was to make the firm a true MEP consultant performing work in 37 states. A design build electrical contracting group was next. Today the Colwill Engineering group of companies has expanded to offer Mechanical, Electrical, and Technologies pure design or design build services.
Mr. Colwill’s responsibilities have grown from design, project management, and cost estimating to sales and marketing, administrative, and executive functions. He particularly enjoys being able to offer the complete menu of services and finding new and creative ways to collaborate internally to produce a better end product for the companies’ clients.
Mr. Colwill was the Building Committee Chair for the new 150,000-sq.ft. Tampa Preparatory School, state-of-the-art academic, athletic and arts facility.
Currently, Mr. Colwill participates in the management of all of the Colwill Engineering entities, including design only, design build, and administrative functions.
