About

With over 250 physicians, 220 nurse practitioners and physician assistants and nearly 100 locations, Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute (FCS) has built a national reputation as being the preferred choice for superior, compassionate, community-based cancer care. FCA provides patients the most advanced cancer treatment, utilizing cutting edge technologies and research, in a setting where patients can be close to home, surrounded and supported by family and friends.

Project

To raise the bar on their already exceptional patient care, FCS needed a new, two-story 35,000 sq. ft. medical facility built on their Pasco County campus in Trinity, Florida. Once complete, the new, high-tech facility would greatly expand the range of cancer treatments available to area residents—including radiation oncology and next-generation PET/CT imaging technology, along with 27 exam rooms and 52 chairs for chemotherapy and other infusions. Patients would also have access to participation in cutting-edge clinical trial research.

Approach

With Onicx serving as general contractor and The Lunz Group handing architect duties, the Trinity Cancer Center project was large, complex, and completed without a hitch by Colwill Engineering Mechanical, Inc. Specs included a Variable Refrigeration System (VRF), with approximately two tons of sheet metal utilized during construction to allow for the movement of 27,000 CFM of conditioned air throughout the facility. As an infusion facility, the Cancer Center also featured a negative pressure room, anterooms, and mixing rooms.

Results

After 15 months of work, the $1.8 million dollar Trinity Cancer Center was completed in August of 2021—on time and on budget. The project was staffed during the peak pandemic timeframe and Colwill utilized every protective measure available to ensure that all staff and tradespeople were protected from COVID-19 to ensure project milestones were met. Our entire team is proud to have played a role in expanding the range of world-class cancer services available to Pasco County residents.
