You will not find a more striking course anywhere else in the region. Pelican Golf Course is the first location on the west coast of Florida to have Latitude 36 Bermudagrass on all fairways. Latitude 36 keeps its vibrant green color during the winter months for much longer than other courses, which ensures gorgeous grounds all season long.
At The Pelican, members can relax, dine, and socialize in one of Florida’s most exclusive clubs. The detailed, luxurious amenities were thoughtfully designed to create a sophisticated space for elite members to enjoy.
Pelican Golf Club consists of a 60,000 square foot, 3 story clubhouse with all the amenities, an event lawn, grille and pro shop, golf instruction center, comfort stations, and residential cottages, all designed to be of exceptional quality and with the utmost attention to detail. The quality of the project is complimented by all of its functional features. Lighting and HVAC controls are designed to provide maximum operating flexibility. The clubhouse has complete emergency backup of all electrical systems, and it features one of the first emergency responder radio enhancement systems in the area.
While the project was done in phases, the major portion had to be completed in a very short time period (6 – 7 months) due to commitments for major events. Design was ongoing during construction to assure that the changing needs of the facility could be incorporated and still achieve the necessary deadlines. Careful planning was necessary from all of the project constituents with particular attention being required for the timing and expediting of the unusual and difficult to procure elements of the project. A special internal Colwill team was assembled to address all of these unique demands. Close coordination with local officials was required in order to stay abreast of the changing needs and permitting and inspection needs.
The long hours and dedication of the Colwill team as well as all of the other project participants helped to produce an exceptional result, despite even the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic during the later stages of construction. This unique project could only be accomplished in such a short time frame with teamwork and cooperation on the part of all who were involved. The project was a complete success and was accomplished with a minimum of disruption to the ongoing operations of the golf course.
